Tatjana Pessoa est autrice, dramaturge et comédienne belge d’origine portugaise et suisse-allemande. Son travail artistique explore les liens entre mémoire intime, histoire collective et transmission familiale, à travers des formes mêlant enquête, récit autobiographique et recherche documentaire. Formée à l’ESACT de Liège après un passage par le Palais de la Culture d’Abidjan, elle développe depuis plusieurs années un travail centré sur les traces, les archives et les récits fragmentaires. Son spectacle La bibliothèque de ma grand-mère, créé au Théâtre de Liège et tourné en Belgique, en France et en Suisse, constitue aujourd’hui le point de départ du livre qu’elle est en train d’écrire. 

Ce projet de livre part d’une question simple et pourtant difficile à formuler : comment faire récit lorsque certaines parties de l’histoire ont été longtemps entourées de silence ? À partir de l’effondrement de son propre corps, le texte remonte progressivement le fil d’une histoire familiale traversée par plusieurs couches de silence : celui de la dictature de Salazar au Portugal, celui de l’histoire coloniale portugaise et de la guerre en Angola, mais aussi les silences plus intimes transmis au sein des familles. 

Situé à la frontière entre récit autobiographique, enquête familiale et réflexion sociologique, le livre se construit à partir d’une matière fragmentaire – souvenirs d’enfance, archives, entretiens, scènes autobiographiques – et interroge la manière dont les histoires individuelles portent les traces de contextes historiques plus vastes. Plus qu’une tentative de reconstituer une histoire parfaitement cohérente, le texte cherche à faire apparaître ce qui se transmet à travers les manques, les contradictions et les zones d’incertitude, et à transformer une expérience intime en un espace de réflexion plus large sur les héritages historiques et familiaux. Le projet est actuellement accompagné par Ana Maria Torres et Mylène Contival au sein de la collection Brûle-Frontières des éditions Chandeigne & Lima. 

Tatjana Pessoa is a Belgian author, playwright and actress of Portuguese and Swiss-German origin. Her artistic work explores the links between personal memory, collective history and family heritage, through forms that blend investigation, autobiographical narrative and documentary research. Trained at ESACT in Liège following a stint at the Palais de la Culture in Abidjan, she has for several years been developing work centred on traces, archives and fragmentary narratives. Her play *La bibliothèque de ma grand-mère* (My Grandmother’s Library), premiered at the Théâtre de Liège and toured in Belgium, France and Switzerland, now forms the starting point for the book she is currently writing. 

This book project stems from a simple yet difficult question to articulate: how does one tell a story when certain parts of history have long been shrouded in silence? Starting from the breakdown of her own body, the text gradually retraces the thread of a family history permeated by several layers of silence: that of Salazar’s dictatorship in Portugal, that of Portuguese colonial history and the war in Angola, but also the more intimate silences passed down within families. 

Straddling the line between autobiographical narrative, family history and sociological reflection, the book is constructed from fragmentary material – childhood memories, archives, interviews and autobiographical scenes – and explores how individual stories bear the marks of broader historical contexts. Rather than an attempt to reconstruct a perfectly coherent narrative, the text seeks to reveal what is conveyed through gaps, contradictions and areas of uncertainty, and to transform a personal experience into a broader space for reflection on historical and family legacies. The project is currently being developed by Ana Maria Torres and Mylène Contival as part of the Brûle-Frontières collection published by Chandeigne & Lima.
