L’exposition de reproductions picturales et photographiques retrace l’histoire de neimënster : de la fondation d’une première abbaye – aujourd’hui disparue – d’Altmünster en 1083 jusqu’à la transformation des lieux en Centre Culturel de Rencontre, inauguré en 2004. D’abord monastère, puis prison, hôpital militaire et à nouveau centre carcéral, le récit des murs de neimënster est fortement lié à l’histoire de Luxembourg. En trois parties, cette exposition aborde dans un premier temps le passé du site, puis le temps de la prison grâce à des photographies des années 1970 et 1980. Enfin, la dernière partie propose des situations architecturales d’espaces de neimënster avant et après les travaux de restauration réalisés entre 1990 et 2004.

The exhibition of paintings and photographs traces the history of neimënster: from the founding of the first abbey in Altmünster in 1083, which no longer exists today, to the transformation of the site into a cultural meeting centre, which was inaugurated in 2004. First a monastery, then a prison, a military hospital and once again a prison, the history of the walls of neimënster is closely linked to the history of Luxembourg. Divided into three parts, this exhibition first looks at the site’s past, then at its time as a prison through photographs from the 1970s and 1980s. Finally, the last part presents architectural situations of spaces in neimënster before and after the restoration work carried out between 1990 and 2004.
