La Boca is a Luxembourgish quintet created in 1998 with the initial intention of interpreting and making better known the repertoire that the Argentinian musician Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992) composed, between 1979 and 1988, for his Quintetto Tango Nuevo. Why LaBoca? It is the name of a port district of Buenos Aires, the place where the ships docked carrying the countless emigrants from all over the world. A poor neighborhood with intense nightlife. A district where the tango, this popular genre that has so quickly acquired worldwide notoriety, has developed and imposed itself. La Boca is not limited to the works of Astor Piazzolla: its musicians have enriched their repertoire with great classic tango standards and then interpreted scores by Pablo Ziegler, Ramiro Gallo or Rodolfo Mederos in particular. Some of the members of La Boca have also composed new scores in the spirit and style of this music. Other composers have also dedicated similar works to them, such as Tango Santa Barbara by Walter Civitareale. Three CDs have so far marked the course of La Boca. The third, Tango Vivaldi, confronts, in an original way, an arrangement of Vivaldi's Four Seasons and Astor Piazzolla's Four Seasons, a great way to revive the musical journey that led from Europe to the Argentinian port of La Boca, up to the tango.
