Avec Canto III, le batteur-compositeur Matthieu Chazarenc prolonge l’univers ouvert avec Canto (2017) et Canto II (2021) : un jazz cinématographique aux accents classiques, gascons et latins. Sa boussole reste orientée vers le Sud, entre l’Espagne, la Méditerranée, l’Orient et jusqu’aux Caraïbes. Il y compose de véritables chansons sans paroles, tour à tour nostalgiques, révoltées ou lumineuses, toujours entêtantes. Porté par un quartet fondé sur l’amitié, que résume le mot basque Lagun, il s’entoure de compagnons fidèles : Christophe Wallemme à la contrebasse, Sylvain Gontard au bugle et Laurent Derache à l’accordéon. With Canto III, drummer and composer Matthieu Chazarenc expands the world he shaped on Canto (2017) and Canto II (2021): a cinematic jazz language infused with classical, Gascon, and Latin colours. His compass remains firmly pointed south, moving between Spain, the Mediterranean, the Orient and as far as the Caribbean. Here he writes true songs without words, by turns nostalgic, defiant or radiant, always memorable. Built on friendship, summed up by the Basque word Lagun, the quartet brings together long-time companions: Christophe Wallemme on double bass, Sylvain Gontard on flugelhorn and Laurent Derache on accordion.
