Ce projet consiste à créer une performance sonore et chorégraphique à partir des paysages sonores du multiartiste luxembourgeois Steve Kaspar (1952–2020), portée par deux artistes qui ont étroitement collaboré avec lui à différentes périodes : Nataša Grujović (accordéoniste/compositrice) et Yuko Kominami (danseuse/chorégraphe).

Le projet peut être décrit comme une rencontre à un carrefour nommé Steve Kaspar. Deux artistes partageant sa vision se réunissent pour poursuivre, approfondir et explorer son univers, qui révèle une topologie empirique et expérientielle des sons, des voix et des mouvements de la matière. Cet univers constitue une invitation à une expérience du monde à la fois intemporelle, éphémère et infinie, où résident la beauté, les intensités et les résonances.

L’œuvre de l’artiste luxembourgeois Steve Kaspar, disparu il y a cinq ans, est à la fois unique, universelle et généreuse. À propos de ses paysages sonores, le label Sub Rosa écrit :

« En se concentrant sur la résonance de ces “éléments”, leur matrice, leur structure principale ou grille, leur usage topologique et leur traitement analogique, Kaspar cherche à rencontrer l’origine du son, à en saisir l’essence et à exprimer son phénomène spirituel. La manipulation et la composition ultérieures de ces “éléments” produisent des sphères sonores multicouches. Pour Kaspar, le son est une réalité expérientielle et empirique ; il doit donc être vécu non seulement mentalement, mais aussi physiquement. » (Sub Rosa, 2015)

Ce projet cherche à maintenir son œuvre vivante dans cette sphère empirique et expérientielle, en créant, au sein du paysage sonore, un espace de résonance pour les voix — c’est-à-dire pour la voix, le mouvement et le son — afin de revenir à « l’instant où rien n’est encore déterminé » et de s’y reconnecter. C’est aussi le lieu où nous vibrons dans « les frictions entre une activité intérieure et son noyau ; l’infime distance qui sépare une voix de ses échos » (Kaspar, 2004).

Le son, la voix et le mouvement s’entrelacent et se métamorphosent continuellement, changeant de forme et d’intensité dans un flux permanent. Tantôt ils apparaissent comme des fantômes, des nuages ou des vols d’oiseaux. Tantôt ils se manifestent sous forme d’amputations, de vides, de sons et de mouvements qui n’existent qu’à travers leur disparition… une topologie de matières invisibles et empiriques.

Il ne s’agit ni d’un hommage ni d’un tribut à l’œuvre de l’artiste, mais d’une nouvelle création réalisée avec Steve Kaspar. Cela n’est possible que grâce à une caractéristique essentielle de son travail : sa capacité à accueillir et à faire éclore des résonances provenant de temps et d’espaces différents afin de créer un univers en mouvement, destiné à continuer à vivre dans une sphère expérientielle.

Ce projet est également la création d’une nouvelle composition musicale, révélant un nouvel horizon et une nouvelle strate.

A new adaptation by Yuko Kominami, Nataša Grujović and Andreas Wagner.

The project is to create a sound and movement performance using the soundscapes of the Luxembourgish multi-media artist Steve Kaspar (1952–2020), by two artists who closely worked with him at different moments – Nataša Grujović (accordionist/composer) and Yuko Kominami (dancer/choreographer). The project can be described as a meeting at a crossing called Steve Kaspar. Two artists who share his vision, have gathered to continue, deepen, and play in his universe, which reveals an empirical and experiential topology of sounds, voices, movements of matters, which is an invitation to timeless, ephemeral, and infinite experience of the world, where beauty, intensities and resonances reside.

The work of Luxembourgish artist Steve Kaspar, who passed away five years ago, is unique and, at the same time, universal and generous. On his soundscape, the Sub Rosa label comments that: «Focusing on the resonance of these ‹elements›, their matrix, their principal structure/grid, their topological use and their analogue treatment, Kaspar aims to encounter the original in a sound, to capture the essence, to give expression to its spiritual phenomenon. The subsequent manipulation and composition of these ‹elements› results in multi-layered sphere sounds. For Kaspar, sound is an experiential/empirical reality and therefore should be experienced not only mentally, but also physically.» (Sub Rosa, 2015)

The project is an attempt to keep his work alive in this empirical and experiential sphere, by creating a place of resonance for voices – namely, voice, movement, and sound – within the soundscape, to lead back to and to connect with «the moment when nothing has yet been determined.» And where we vibrate in «frictions in-between an interior activity and its core; the extremely fine distance that separates a voice from its echoes.» (Kaspar, 2004) Sound, voice, and movement flutter together by changing its shapes and intensity in flux. Sometimes they appear as ghosts, clouds, and flocks of birds. Sometimes they serve as amputations, holes, and sound and movement that exists only by being taken away… a topology of invisible/empirical matters.

This is neither a tribute nor homage to the artist’s work, but rather a new creation with Steve Kaspar. This is possible only because of a characteristic of his work that accommodates and blossoms in resonances from different times, different spaces, to create a whole moving universe, and is meant to keep on living in an experiential sphere.

Furthermore, it is a creation of a new musical composition revealing a new horizon and a new stratum.
