This autumn, Larisa Faber will be deepening her research into Romanian history, with a particular focus on the communist period. She will be joined by Romanian academic and writer Diana Mistreanu to untangle significant historical and cultural moments. With British theatre maker Shamira Turner she will be looking at how to weave in her family history into the bigger historical narrative, so as to create engrossing storytelling that would be accessible to all audiences. This is the first time that she will be inviting multiple artists and thinkers into the room during the research period : “I’m cherishing their perspectives. With Swiss-British theatre maker Josie Dale-Jones, I’ll be delving into possible seeds to make a new show together in tandem, as well as her perspective on the research so far. With Shamira and Josie, two fresh pairs of eyes will be looking at material that is very familiar and personal to me, yet quite unknown to them. This’ll give me opportunities to explore how a very specific context – the Romanian communist period – could be read by or made relevant to audiences for whom this is rather unfamiliar territory. I’d also venture to say that the three of us hold somewhat differing political points of view and that having viewpoint diversity in the room, as well as civil but challenging discourse, is something I feel very strongly about in these present times.” 

Cet automne, Larisa Faber approfondira ses recherches sur l’histoire de la Roumanie, et plus particulièrement sur la période communiste. Elle sera rejointe par l’universitaire et écrivaine roumaine Diana Mistreanu pour démêler des moments historiques et culturels importants. Avec la metteuse en scène britannique Shamira Turner, elle cherchera à intégrer l’histoire de sa famille dans un récit historique plus vaste, afin de créer une narration captivante accessible à tous les publics. Larisa Faber invitera pour la première fois plusieurs artistes et penseuses dans cette période de recherche : « Je chéris leurs perspectives. Avec Josie Dale-Jones, metteuse en scène helvético-britannique, j’explorerai les possibilités de créer un nouveau spectacle en tandem, ainsi que son point de vue sur les recherches menées jusqu’à présent. Avec Shamira et Josie, deux nouvelles paires d’yeux se pencheront sur un matériel qui m’est très familier et personnel, mais qui leur est tout à fait inconnu. Cela me donnera l’occasion d’explorer la manière dont un contexte très spécifique – la période communiste roumaine – peut être lu ou rendu pertinent pour des publics pour lesquels il s’agit d’un territoire peu familier. J’oserais également dire que nous avons toutes les trois des points de vue politiques quelque peu différents et que la diversité des points de vue, ainsi qu’un discours civilisé mais stimulant, est quelque chose qui me tient particulièrement à cœur à l’heure actuelle. »
