The declaration of May 9, 1950 is considered the founding text of European construction. Pronounced by Robert Schuman, then French Minister of Foreign Affairs, and inspired by Jean Monnet, it proposes the pooling of French and German coal and steel resources in an organization open to other European countries. A major step in the construction of Europe, it followed a series of plans that marked the beginning of Franco-German reconciliation. Given by the Franco-German couple Armelle de Labarre and Hermann Elting, this conference aims to illustrate the contribution of the plans signed by Robert Schuman to the whole system of economic, ethical, political and social governance of the European Union.
The 3 plans signed by Schuman:
I. The "Charlotte" plan - for the departure of the Grand Duchess during the German invasion of 10th May 1940.
II. The "Winston" plan - for the reception of Churchill in Luxembourg at the Grand Ducal Palace on 14 July 1946, after the electoral disavowal of the British
III. The "Robert" plan - for Europe: the declaration of the French Foreign Minister Schuman on May 9, 1950.
In conclusion
The "Conversion" of General de Gaulle to the Franco-German reconciliation: "Europe - of the united nations".
