Uprooted for a long time because she lived both in Malaysia and Kenya before settling in France under the Absa l'Atelier grant, Maral Bolouri has decided to finally drop her luggage. A very active member of the Artists in Exile Workshop, she has participated in the last three editions of the Visions d'exil festival, twice as a visual artist and once as an assistant curator. Maral's work is unmistakably contemporary and tirelessly questions the place made for minority identities, through video, photography, drawing, painting and sculpture. With her new project "un-mothering" she wishes to explore maternal bonding and separation, questions of rootedness/deracination using anonymous family archives and found photographs. She will continue her research in Neimënster as part of a residency supported by the Nora program, which supports refugee artists from countries in open conflict.
