In the streets of an African megapolis, the noise of mopeds, cars, carts, motorcycles, merchants and animals create a permanent symphony. In this acoustic cauldron lives a child soldier, a little girl of around twelve. Forced into service, she has fled the horrors of war. By day, she transmutes the sounds of the city into celestial melodies on her makeshift Kora. At night, haunted by the sounds of war, her singing awakens memories of the dead. After all, the child is gifted with exceptional hearing. It is said that she sang in her mother's womb. She no longer remembers her mother. The war has taken her memory. She can't remember how long the street has been her home, the fishmonger her aunt, the café owner her uncle. Thanks to her sense of hearing, Soledad, the child soldier, recreates the beauty of the world in the deafening din of the city. During the residency, Andréas Wagner, musicians Oumar Kouyaté (Kora) and Nataša Grujovic (accordion), and an actress-singer will experiment with a musical and sound creation of the play written by Zarina Khan. L'Enfant-Soldat, née musique recounts the musical rebirth of a young woman forcibly conscripted into the war. The singer-actresses take on the characters, while the musicians set the sound stage and create the musical atmosphere. Their dialogue gives rise to a poetic fantasy world struggling against the destructive forces of reality. This musical tale will be written and directed by Serge Wolfsperger.
