Marianne Villière – lives and works near Nancy, in the Grand Est region of France. After completing a Master’s degree at ENSAD in Nancy, she went on to study critical theory at HEAD in Geneva, where she was awarded the Gianni Motti prize. In the common space, her approach seeks to find tipping points so as to: reverse the balance of power, make our links perceptible, strengthen our humanities and our relationship with the environment. This ethic is intended to be concrete, practical, shared and therefore accessible. It involves composing contextual and ephemeral situations based on observation and pre-existence. Discreet but complicit, his interventions offer a double-edged sword. At first, the gesture seems funny, light and even superficial, only to confront us and engage in a dialogue with our ambiguities.
During my residency at Neimënster, I want to suggest gentle infiltrations. Bifurcations of attention may be provoked, awkwardness may be fomented, words like remarks hidden or to be found between the lines… It is a question of giving way of surprise, to better appreciate the preciousness of our links, the richness of our subjectivities and thus approach the works from other perspectives. As pretexts for encounters, I imagine this work as a dialogue to: take the tangent and show how pleasant it is to take detours, to imagine other contemporary and sometimes critical paths. I look forward to exploring with you!
