Guitarist Louis Matute doesn't fit into any musical box, and is part of the new generation of Swiss jazz. From his Honduran father, he inherited a Latin American musical culture, while his mother gave him a classical music education. One might have imagined him with an instrument in his hands from an early age but it was only much later that the teenager began to play music. Initially interested in the electric guitar, it was in Spain, in contact with flamenco, that his vocation came to him. Flamenco and contemporary jazz, blend together. Friendship is essential to his musical development, such as when he met saxophonist Léon Phal, who has been at his side since the very beginning. On the basis of these experiences, he has built his own folklore, a joyful melting pot where the brass blends with the oud, the trumpet with the piano and where guitar, the only electric instrument in the band, brings a breath of freshness to the ensemble.
It's the smell of coffee, pictures from his travels, a reflection in the mirror, small rivers and big questions. All this - life itself! - Louis Matute has under his fingertips.
