Tireless Nazi hunters in many countries, Serge and Beate Klarsfeld created the Association of the Sons and Daughters of Jewish Deportees from France in 1979, responsible for defending the cause of the descendants of deportees. In 1975, Serge Klarsfeld began to compile a list of Holocaust victims in France. The first edition of the Deportation Memorial was published in 1978. A new edition was published in 2012 and brought together the names of 74,182 Jews deported to death camps. It serves as the basis for the Wall of Names of the Shoah Memorial in Paris, which today has 76,000 names, including those of 11,400 children, all deported by the Nazis with the collaboration of the Vichy government.
Unwavering defenders of the memory of the victims of the Shoah, in a relentless fight against the former Nazis of the Federal Republic of Germany who are trying to have their past forgotten, Beate and Serge Klarsfeld do us the honor of coming to neimënster to share their knowledge and their experience.
They will tell us how the lessons of a terrifying past and their indispensable teaching may allow us to build a society aware of the dangers of totalitarianism and to face them.
